Allium schoenoprasum
A must have for any home cook, this perennial, mild onion flavored plant is one my most used herbs. Trim a few leaves to add flavor to hot and cold dishes. The edible purpled flowers are a tasty, beautiful addition to any salad or meal as well. I also harvest flowers in the Spring and infuse them into white or white wine vinegar for a flavored Pink salad vinegar! Harvest flowers to keep the plant growing new leaves.
Growing Chives
Start from seed indoors in February with other alliums. Can be direct sown in March. Seeds take their time to germinate. I plant several seeds into one cell or pot and grow a nice bunch of chives to transplant. Once established they will come back every year.
