Helichrysum bracteatum
Harvest tons of red and orange papery petaled blooms for fresh or to use dry. Strawflowers excel in their ability to hold color and form when dried. For best results as a dried flower, cut before the petals open. The flower continues to open after harvest and they will store best if the heads don't open all of the way. The plants grow 2-3 feet high. Plant in full sun for optimal growth.
Strawflower Growing Instructions
Strawflowers grow easily from seed. If starting seeds indoors sow 4 weeks prior to your last frost date. These small seeds need light to germinate. Pre moisten soil and press seeds lightly into seedling mix. Transplant out two-three weeks after the last frost. Space plants 9”-12” apart. Direct sow seeds when soil temperatures have reached 55 degrees- typically May in the Northwest. Barely cover with soil and keep the area moist. Seeds typically germinate in 5-7 days.
