Cucurbita pepo
An Heirloom Italian Zucchini with delicious flavor, I chose this, my favorite variety to be my first large scale zucchini seed crop. I have trialed many varieties over the years and this is always my favorite. The deep green fruits with light green ribs are beautiful in the harvest basket. They are prolific and produce many fruits as well and flowers for stuffing. The plants have a bush habit and grow quite large, vigorous and powdery mildew resistant. Grow in full sun for best results.
Growing Zucchini
For early harvests, start seeds indoors to transplant after the last frost and transplant out when soils have warmed in early to Mid May. Seeds germinate and grow quickly, so beware of starting them too early. Can also be direct sown when soils warm in May through the end of June. Two to three sowings three weeks apart provides a continuous harvest July- October. These grow large so space plants 18”-24” apart for ease of harvest. Harvest fruits twice a week for best production and to avoid the almost inevitable zucchini baseball bat!
