Zea mays
Deep black and spikey kernels on 5-7 inch cobs are beautiful and delicious. The popcorn has a hearty, deep earthy flavor and pops into large pieces. It’s very fun to grow your own popcorn! Give it a try!
Growing Corn
Plant seeds indoors to transplant or direct sow in warm soil. I tend to start my corn in late April and transplant it out mid May to get a jump on the season as this corn is harvested as dry corn and not for fresh eating. However I bet the seeds prefer to be direct sown so perhaps try both! Plant at least 20 plants in a block pattern (not a long row) to get optimal pollination. Stalks grow 5-6 feet tall. Plants produce one maybe two cobs per plant. Space 10” apart in rows at least two feet apart. Plant in full sun.
75 days to maturity
