Papaver somniferum
This eyecatching poppy seed came to me from an Island friend at the seed share last year. It is a deep, dark purple, ruffled breadseed poppy and it is gorgeous! Plants grow to 5 feet tall with one bloom per stem. Flowers are fleeting but they give way to blue/green seed heads that hold interest and beauty all summer long. They easily self sow to create a purple patch of poppies for years to come.
Poppy Growing Instructions
Poppies prefer cool soils and germinate grow best when seeded in February and March. They can be sown indoors but prefer to germinate outdoors, on their own time, when conditions are right for them. You can even sprinkle seeds in October and November and they can overwinter in the soil and come up in early Spring.
70+ days to maturity
