Spinacia oleracea
Early Mona is back! I grew this variety out several years ago and loved it so much I needed to grow more. Early Mona is quite different in flavor and leaf shape than the Abundant Bloomsdale. Deep green, smooth leaved, tender spinach is perfect for early Spring and Fall/Winter harvests. I am still harvesting from my outdoor Fall planting in early December after several light frosts. Wonderful! Excellent spinach flavor is perfect mixed with other greens or on its own. Vigorous growth and upright habit. Original seed from Irish Seed Savers Exchange.
Growing Spinach
Spinach grows best in cool soils and bolts as the days warm and lengthen in the late Spring. I start seeds indoors in early March to transplant out when the starts have two to three true leaves. Seeds can also be direct sown around your last frost date. An early September sowing yields a bountiful Fall and Winter harvest. Spinach seeds take their time to germinate but don’t give up on them! Space or thin plants to 8” for full sized leaves.
28 days baby leaf, 45 days large leaf.
Packet contains ~200 seeds
