Marigolds are a must-have in the vegetable patch and these big bold orange ones are fabulous. Harvest big blooms from robust, 4’ tall plants from late Summer til the first frost. Many cultures uses these flowers in ceremony as they can be strung together in beautiful chains to honor the dead or the living. The chains dry well to last months. Also use for bonatical dying for a strong orange color.
Marigold growing instructions:
Direct Sow seed in the garden after your last frost when soils have warmed to about 50-55 degrees. They need light to germinate so press into the soil, keep it moist. Seeds germinate after 5-7 days. Space each plant 8-10” apart.
Sow indoors to transplant 3 weeks before last frost date then transplant out when soils have warmed to 50-55 degrees. They grow well from transplants and germinate quickly.
