Papaver rhoeas
Behold the delicate flower that is the Shirley Poppy. The unique color variation and petal arrangement make this poppy a treasure. As the photos show some are single petals and some have big fluffy double petal arrangement. I have found that these don’t hold well in arrangements or in a vase but perhaps there is a flower grower trick I have yet to learn. I grow them to keep me and the bees company in the garden. This mix has a red, pink, and white color palette with each plant growing a unique blend of these colors.
Poppy Growing Instructions
Poppies prefer cool soils and germinate grow best when seeded in February and March. They can be sown indoors but prefer to germinate outdoors, on their own time, when conditions are right for them. You can even sprinkle seeds in October and November and they can overwinter in the soil and come up in early Spring.
