Clarkia unguiculata

The unusual color patterns and big bell shaped flowers make this a fun and unique flower to grow.  Many plants have bicolored pink or peach, and red flowers.  There were some all white plants in the mix as well.  They are low growing, compact plants and grow only to two feet tall and three feet across.  I find growing several plants together creates visual interest and shows off the range of colors and patterns nicely.  They bloom in early July and continue until the end of August.  Prefers Full Sun.

Growing Clarkia

Clarkia started easily for me from seed and transplanted well.  They need light to germinate so do not cover seeds with soil.  They are tolerant of some cold, but not frost.  Start three weeks before the last frost and transplant out in May.  Direct sow on top of the soil after your last frost. Space 12”-16” apart.

75 Days to Maturity
