Lathyrus odoratus
I’ve selected the best of the purple tones that do well for me in this mix so expect to see lavenders, dark purples, and bi-color purples as well as creamy and bi color whites as they begin to bloom in your garden. There could be a stray off color in the mix but I have been growing this for a few years now and don’t find many off types. And really, off type sweet peas are still beautiful sweet peas!
Sweet Pea Growing Instructions
Sweet peas can be a challenge to germinate but once they get going they are tough. Increase germination by nicking the seed coat then pre-sprout indoors by soaking in a wet paper towel. Finally, sow in pots to transplant or plant the presprouted seeds. Alternately, direct sow in cool soils of late February/March. Give them time and they will typically sprout on thier own out in the garden. Sow ½” deep and thin to 4”.
