Tagetes patula
Compact French Marigold grows beautifully contrasting red petals with orange edging, changing to mostly orange as the flowers mature. This is the perfect marigold to interplant in your vegetable garden for companion planting as it both attracts pollinating insects and repels others that can become pests. They top out at about 10” so won’t overwhelm other crops and produce tons of flowers from late July to first frost. Flowers can also be used for natural dye projects as any other marigold. Plants prefer sun.
Marigold growing instructions:
Direct Sow seed in the garden after your last frost when soils have warmed to about 50-55 degrees. They need light to germinate so press into the soil, keep it moist. Seeds germinate after 5-7 days. Space each plant 8-10” apart.
Sow indoors to transplant 3 weeks before last frost date then transplant out when soils have warmed to 50-55 degrees. They grow well from transplants and germinate quickly.
60 days to maturity
Packet contains ~50 seeds
