Helichrysum bracteatum
The stunning blooms on this variety are white with peachy rose blush accents, becoming darker pink as the flowers mature. The characteristic papery strawflower blooms attract a diverse array of pollinators once they open. These easy to grow plants get 4-5 feet tall and produce all summer long. Great for fresh cut flowers, Strawflowers also dry beautifully. Plant in full sun for the most robust plants. They benefit from some support if you can manage.
Strawflower Growing Instructions
Strawflowers grow easily from seed. If starting seeds indoors sow 4 weeks prior to your last frost date. These small seeds need light to germinate. Pre moisten soil and press seeds lightly into seedling mix. Transplant out two-three weeks after the last frost. Space plants 9”-12” apart. Direct sow seeds when soil temperatures have reached 55 degrees- typically May in the Northwest. Barely cover with soil and keep the area moist. Seeds typically germinate in 5-7 days.
