Helianthus annus
Taiyo means Sun in Japanese and this sunflower brings it in a big way! Each plant is a single stalk with one very very large flowerhead! I had one who grew about 10 feet tall last Summer! What a sight to behold. This Japanese heirloom variety has the classic brown center with bright yellow petals that brings pollinators to enjoy the bounty and softness of each large flowerhead.
Sunflower growing instructions
Sunflowers grow quickly and easily from direct sowing or transplants. They prefer warm soils and grow quickly when Spring temperatures begin to rise. Sow in the ground 3 weeks after your last frost. Sow indoors to transplant around your last frost date- they will germinate and be ready to set out quickly. Space 12”-18” apart.
