Lycopersicon lycopersicum
Harvest bowls full of mid-sized yellow tomato perfection. Great flavor and productive plants that fruit over six weeks or more. Does well outdoors or under cover in our region. I like to have a variety of colors of tomatos for fresh Summer tomato salad. The yellow types are typically less flavorfull but I found these to be on par with my best red slicers for sweetness, texture, and productivity. Original seed from the Irish Seed Savers Association. Indeterminate. Needs trellising.
Growing Tomatoes:
There are entire books and many online resources for starting and growing tomatoes in the Pacific Northwest. Here is a great link from the Tilth Alliance about growing great Tomatoes in Seattle. The basics? Start tomato seeds indoors with supplemental heat and light in February and March. Plant when soil has warmed to 60 degrees. Tomatoes like to grow in compost rich soil. Stop watering plants in August for sweeter fruits that ripen earlier.
